G'Day Mel
I've been meaning to drop you a line for some time now, Mel. Since the end of July, in any case, when we opened the doors to Mahony & Sons. I don't know whether you recall a brief meeting with myself and Chris, my son, in Vancouver in 1999, I believe. Well it took that long to get the job done. A testament to Irish stubborness if ever there was one!
The purpose of this letter is to give you a debriefing on the project, or some thoughts, now that the smoke has cleared somewhat.
Firstly, the pub has opened to great reviews and an extremely high level of acceptance from the entire community. They love the design, look and feel of the rooms. When people ask me to explain I tell them that what they see is a 2006 interpretation of Irish Pub Culture, not particularly a dark Victorian style design. IPC delivered not only on the design, but the special mix of painting, furniture, lighting and brica brac resulted in a truly memorable pub. Together with the family history included and family involvement it makes for a powerful combination. I think that the magic of the design is that the IPC managed somehow to also capture the essence of what is termed in Vancouver as the " West Coast " feel or look. Call it a miracle, 3rd Order, if you like. People love lighter ambience of the design.
Secondly, we all had such fun working on the project and in particular with the IPC. Personally it was very stimulating for me. When you see a long time vision unfolding before your eyes, it makes for a special experience. I believe that in most things in life, success is impacted directly by the strength of relationships. We were very blessed to work with Darren on this project. His attention to detail, sense of organisation and follow up are of the highest degree. Not only that, but at the end of the day we regard Darren and Heather as dear personal friends. Although he had an extremely emotional year with family affairs, he managed to always address our many requests. It was just terrific working with him, a true professional. Just don't tell him I said this!!
Darren was well backed up obviously by the design crew in Dublin and others, including the painters, Allen Lambert and Jay Roche, Anita Doyle and Frank Doyle. They all should be proud of their efforts.
Lastly, our sincerest thanks for bringing this dream to fruition for our family. This project always had a special feel about it for us. The IPC not only was a major contributor to that feeling but delivered emphatically. As they say " the proof of the pudding is in the eating ". It is up to us to now operate profitably. Your work has made this achievable in that the promotion and marketing elements of the business are facilitated by the design. Even the media love it. We have been the recipients of a couple of features in the local media. The pub showed up so well on the TV segment. If I can get a copy I'll send it to you. So thanks to all Mel and please pass on my comments to all involved, especially the design team. Sight unseen, an excellent job. In due course we will have our web site up and running and I will send this link onto you. There are some photographs etc.on www.mahonyandsons.blogspot.com. If you need to use us as a reference for future clients please feel free to do so. And if you are ever in Vancouver please pop in for a visit.
Sincerely,
Slainte,
Peter A. Mahony
